Massey (war correspondent) reports tnat. our mounted') liave given a brilliant account of themselves during the past, three weeks. There have been old-time cavalry charges across the open country, each resulting in glorious success. The Australians and New Zealanders, when advancing on Ramleh and Lydda from the south-west, met with considerable opposition, but pressed on, routing the Turks, until they reached El Tliomat. Hero the Turks, who were reinforced by two divisions, made a most determined counter-attack against the New Zeslanders. The Turks, running very quickly behind the somewhat strong gunfire, got to within fifteen yards of the line', attacking with bombs and rifles. Then the whole line of Auckland men, with some Wellington Mounted Rifles, rushed forward with the bayonet. The Aucklanders and Wellingtonians met the enemy with tremendous force and smashed up the counter-attack completely. The Turks broke and fled, leaving over 400 dead as the result.

The cavalry's work went on ceaselesslv. despite two periods of dry.; scorching wind. One of the most notable incidents prior to the capture of Ramleh was the Australian light horse galloping over the trenches at Becrshefba. On three other occasions a Yeomanry brigade charged in the open ugainst gun, machine-pun, and rifle fire. Mr. Massey pavs a tribute to the ftne work nf the British Yeomanry generally.
