I'alinerston N., Ijist Night A man named Alfred Coy, residing id Ada Street with his wife, arrived at the police station last night and Alleged: that his wife had shot him in the cheek. It appears that Coy, who had been at the Ashhurst races, arrived home short - l.v after i) o'clock. His wife ltiet him on the footpath. Words were exchanged, and then, Coy nllegcd, his wife flred at him with a revolver and inflicted the wound. .Martha Coy appeared ftt the police court this morning on a charge of attempting to kill her husband, and, on the application of the police, was'remanded till November 29. The ouw»« tion of bail was deferred. THE INCREASED RAILWAY CHARGES. Wellington, Last Night The Increase in railway fares and) freights is gazetted to-night to come Into operation on Sunday next. 'Passenger fares are to be increased by a penny foe every shilling or fraction of a'shilling of the amount of the fare now charged. Exception is made in favor of ordinary season tickets on recognised subnrban linos, fares for military forceß, weekly twelve-trip ticket#; Bates for goods and luggage are to be raised 10 per cent., tlui minimum increase to bo one penny.
