SCHOOL SPORTS.
CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. The arrangements for the championship sports meeting amongst the primary schools are well forward and tho meeting will take place on the first Thursday in March except one event, which will be held on New Year's Day. Twelve district schools have already entered, which assures the gathering being a. success. Briefly the scheme is as follows: . Tho Ngamotu Seaside Committee is giving a shield value £2O and a committee set up in conjunction with local school teachers has arrived at the following:—Entries will be received from 'single schools as .follows: Central, West End, Waitara, Inglowood, Stratford, ISltham and IlawCra. All other schools may amalgamate with each or any other school in their district so long 'as the total roll does not exceed 400. The competition is open to any primary school in Taranaki, the school or district scoring the most points to hold the shield for one year. No school or district may enter more than three boys for each event. All boys who liavo been attending school up to the previous December are eligible. Points for tho shield will count a> follows:—First boy in the final of each' event, three points; second boy, two points; third boy, one point. Each school or district must wear a distinct coloured shirt. [Note: 'Where several schools are competing as a district they enter as one and have only one colour. The championship events are:—Three miles, to be run on Jiinuary 1 at Ngaraotu beach. All the following events will be held at the sports ground, New Plymouth, on a. Thursday in March: 100 yards, 220 yards, 440 yards, 1 mile, 120 yards hurdles, high jump, long jump, and 1 mile walk. Entries and., colours for the three miles close on December 17, and all other event's on February 20, with Mr. !A. Bullians, Central School, New Ply'mouth. Other events' Will be held for other than championship boys, including sack race and three-legged raee, etc. The committee are anxious to add three events for secondary schools and an invitation 220 yards open to any boy attending school. Gold, gold centre, and silver medals suitably inscribed will be presented to tho first three bqvs in each event. The whole of the net proceeds of the March gathering will be given to patriotic funds.
