HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
MONTHLY. MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the HigS School Board was held last night, when there were present Messrs D, Hutchen (chairman), H. Trimble, J, S. Fox, R. W. D. Robertson, S. G, ■ Smith, T. G. Hirst, L. C. Sladden, F. W. Miction, E, P. Webster and Dr. Fookse. THE GIRLS' SCHOOL. Mips J. R. Barr, principal of the Girls* Higlr School, reported that the gardener . was finding great difficulty in keeping both the school and the ho\i>e ground* in good order, and she suggested that he be employed six days a week instead of five, as at present. He would then be able to devote considerable time ta the vegetable garden, if this was to bft worth while. As prices of linen wererising rapidly, she had thought it wigsl- - get in a supply for next year. The question of tWe gardener war reV - ferred to the grounds committee. '■' • < GENERAL. Mr. F. W. Atkinson; considered that a returned soldier might be appointed as custodian at the school, and he suggested that they should communicate with the secretary of the association at Stratford. The chairman favored the idea, stating that he would place the matter before the principal. The action of the clialritiin in affixing ' the seal to the agreement, with the Borough Council, re Hendrie' street drain- ; age, was approved. It was resolved to make' a special grant of £3 towards printing the prospectus in the Taranakian. A committee was appointed to arrange re housing the life-saving reel.' The matter of-arranging compensation for land taken by the Publie Works Department at Manaia was referred to the chairman, with authority to instruct the board's solicitors.
