Mr. A. L. O. Fraser, of Hastings, is ly:"S seriously ill ia a private hospital. Mr. T. - Moss, irfember of the ciency Board, is on short visit to New •Plymouth. Mrs Grant-Fargie received advice yesterday morning that her husband, who left with the Main Body (mountede), has been wounded. Mrs B. Fox has received a cable stating that Private ,D, Fox has been adtnitfed to the N.L. General Hospital, suffering influenza. second occasion Within two months. Mr. E. Hellier, Lepnerton; Iws ceived advice that his son, Gunner W, 11. Hellier, of- the 6th Howitzer Battery, has been transferred to the Swithwark Military, Hospital, Dulwich, with a gunshot ,Kound in the right knee; Mr. E. Lash, of New Plymouth, was ;last night appointed secretary to the jNew Plymouth High Schools Board. .There were 25 applicants for the position. The High School Board last night , decided to recommend to tho Education Department for re-appointment to the Board, Messrs R; W. D, Robertson and G. P. Webster, whose term of appointment has expired. Mrs T. R. Hughes, of the Grand Central, has received a private cable from her son, Private J. G. Hughes, of the Medical Corps, who was wounded and gassed in last months' battle in Flanders, to the effect that he is progressing favorably, and is remaining with his unit. * . Mrs I. West, Fitzroy, has recently been advised that H. West has been transferred to duty as dispensing chemist at Walton-on-Thames Hospital. Harry Wast mentioned was for a short time in Mr. C. S. Rennell's office, which he left to join Mr. Hood, chemist, as apprentice, but before his three years' term had elapsed volunteered for service in connection with the ambulance, in which service he has more than once received favorable recognition, but the work proving too strenuous West had to be invalided to England. In musical circles West will be favorably remembered in New Plymouth as a .prominent member of Mh George's orchestra.
There was a large gathering of members 'of the congregation of. St* Mary's Church in the schoolroom last night, on the occasion of a complimentary social being tendered to Miss Devenish, iii reCognition of her many years services in church work, and to welcome her back to X.P. after an absence of some months. Miss Devenish was presented with' a handsome gold bracelet watch, on bohalf of the congregation, by 4rchdeaoon Evans, who referred to the sterling work she had done for the church.ami the Sunday school. Mr. S. W. Shaw also spoke in' highly eulogistic tijrms of the keen interest Miss Devenish had always taken in all branches of work connected with St. Mary's. Musical items were contributed, and supper was dispensed by the ladies of the Guild, a most enjoyable evening being spent, liy, all nreseht.
