SUPREME COURT BENCH
MR. IIERDMAN'S ELEVATION. (From Our Own Correspondent). Wolliiijjtoii, Nov. 15. It is reported again, on better authority than before, that the Hon A. L. Herdman, Attorney-General, is shortly to take the seat on the Supreme Court Bench to be vacated by Sir John Denniston. The change may take place, it is said, after the Christmas holidays. Mr. Herdman is in no hurry to leave the National Ministry, but it is stated that Sir John Denniston wishes to be relieved of duty as soon as possible. If Mr. Herdman does leave the Ministry early in the New Year, it may be assumed that the chief Reform whip, Mr. Guthrie (Oroua) will be given a seat in the Cabinet. He would not be able to become Attorney-General, antl this office doubtless would be filled by Sir Francis Bell. The change would involve a byelection in Wellington North.
