THE MARBLE BAR.
NEW PREMISES OPENED. Saturday, (ho opening day of the new promises of tno Marble Bar, turned out pleasantly warm and summery, so that the conditions from the point of view of the management were ideal. Consequently the new bar was thronged from the opening of the doors at 3.50 p.m. till the closing hour in the evening. The premises, next Ambury Bros.'s clothing department, are splendidly situated in the centre of the town, and the interior, witli its well-arranged mirrors, greenery and floral decorations, has a pleasing effect of coolness, which is heightened by softly shaded lighting and a wide wainscoting of finely surfaced white plaster, panelled off with dark-stained Oregon slats. Electric fans have been installed to maintain an even temperature on the hottest days. The furnishing throughout is done "in American oak, upholstered in morocco, and the up-to-date double fountain is built up in solid marble with easily cleaned metal fittings. Every article, )vhen returned to the counter, is thoroughly sterilised with boiling- water from a ealifont. There are many important smaller fixtures, one being an electrically-driven drink mixer. A second hot water geyser and a larger ice cream churn have yet to be installed, while various bronze statuettes have also to come to hand. The waitresses wear a neat, grey Quaker costume, which is very effective and in keeping with the quiet furnishing of the premises. A very wide selection of iced and hot dainties and choice drinks is offered, ar.il luncheonettes for busy people are served at any hour. The company makes a specialty of ice cream packed to take home, and caters for both wholesale and retail trade. The business is managed by Mr. Frederick Curr, late of the Marble Bar, Sydney, and Miss Martin, manageress, besides being responsible for the successful attention to the wants of customers, will also make all cakes and sponges for the dainty afternoon teas which are to be a feature of the enlarged business. On Saturday Mrs. Moverley'a orchestra rendered musical items during the afternoon and evening, and in future a regular orchestra will be in attendance. The management wish it to be known that the premises are on the telephone, Np. ~
