FAKED BANK NOTES.
PUT THROUGH THE TOTALIZATOR. Christ-church, Nov. 15. Under cover of pressure of business during the Christclmrch Carnival Wee'.: a number of forged bank notes, purporting to be one pound notes on the Hank of Australasia and the National Bank of New Zealand, have been put info circulation. They are photographic reproductions that, when circulated at a busy time, would have passed unnoticed bv many ipeople, but are" easily distinguishable from the original notes on close examination. These notes were found by the Union Bank of Australia in a very large quantity of bank notes paid in by the Canterbury Jockey Club. They bad been paid in through the "tote," and it was owing to their being amongst such a largo quantity of notes, which took some time in sorting, that their was not disclosed earlier.
