WESTERN ATTACK.
FRUITLESS COUNTER. ATTACKS. AEROPLANE SHEDS BOMBED, London, Nov. 16. The Admiralty reports that aircraft attempted to bomb Uytkerkc aerodrome yesterday, but high winds prevented them reaching their objectives. We thereupon bombed the aeroplane sheds at Handzaim. All our machines return?d. The Matin's correspondent at the British front says: After pounding the British first lines at Passchendaele for a week the enemy launched his lirst serious counter-attack. Owing to the possession of the heights the British artillery was able to overlook the enemy's gun emplacements, shelters, and concentration points. Our guns swept the enemy's rear lines, wiped out communications, and spoiled l;is preparations. Our advanced posts, armed with maehinc-guns. stopped the Bavarians despite the sheltering fog. IViiK-e Itupprecht must either continue fruitless counter-attacks or retreat twenty kilometres.
Sir Douglas Haig reports: We made a successful raid last night north-east-ward of Fampoux and repulsed an attempt to approach our lines northward oi Poelcapelle.

A French communique states that a fierman attack at a point d'appui north of Velzoek, in Belgium, completely failed, the enehmy suffering appreciable losses. The artillery duel continued to be lively on the right bank of the Meuse. The Germans bombed the region south of Nancy. There were no victims. FREXCH FRUSTRATE ENEMY ATTACK.
