Mr. 0. N. Firth, local manager of the Westport Coal Company, has been appointed by the Wellington Coal Trade Committee to act as the honorary representative of the committee in this district, with the object of keeping the committee fully posted regarding the requirements of essential industries, available stocks, and other matters of interest in dealing with the Coal Trade Regulations.

Advice has been received that FlightLieutenant Frederick James Sharlmid, R.F.C., was killed in notion in Fiance on October 24. Lieutenant Thailand, who is the son of the late Mr. C. Sharland, and grandson of Mr. C. Sharland, both formerly of Netv I'.'ymouth, was 33 years of .age. He was born and educated at Auckland. After attending a course at the Kohiniarama Flying School, Lieutenant Sharland, accompanied by his mother, went to England, arriving early last March. After passing the tests of the Royal Flying Corps with honors, Lieutenant Sharland was granted a commission in the eorp9, and was on uuty in France till the time of his death.
