(From Our Own Correspondent). There was not much business at the court on Thursday, the case of Macfie and Bradley taking up the greater part of the two-hours sitting. Both parties are employees of the Oaonui Dairy Co. On October 12 the hands, were having some skylarking, which" fl!IMd into a scalding match. Bradley got hit with a rag whilst carrying a bucket of hot water, which was thrown (accidentally of otherwise) over Macfie. The sum claimed was £25, and the magistrate awarded £3 14s and costs £O. Three judgment summons eases were heard, and orders were granted against two Maoris in favor of local tradesmen.

The Awards Department (Mr. Wakelin) proceeded against an ex-Mnnaia employer named Brown, for not paying Mrs. Emerson (cook) a day's holiday she was entitled to; also for not paying £2 5s per week, the rate under the award for the Taranaki Hotel Employees' Union; thirdly, not putting up time sheets as required. Mr. Wakelin said it took 11 months to find defendant. In the first instance he was told if he paid the £1 he would not be proceeded against, which good advice he refused to follow. The magistrate, on the first complaint, fined defendant £3, on the second £2, and on the third £l, and costs 15s.

I The social tendered to their late president (Private D. O'Sullivan) by the Hibernian Lodge, last Wednesday, wsa well attended. The Town Hall was tastefully decorated, the stage being comfortably arranged for card players nad non-dan-cers. Music of the very best was supplied by Mr. Canncll. A liberal supper, supplied by the ladies of the Catholic congregation, was daintily kid out in the supper room, under the supervision of Mrs. \V. J S. Dudley, assisted by Mrs. Ross, Misses Davis, Callaglian, Fleming Dp Castro (3) and O'Sullivan (2). After the supper Father Doolaghty, on behalf of the lodge, presented Private O'Sullivan with a safety razor and pocket mirror and wished him a safe journey and quick return. Private O'Sullivan, in it neat speech, thanked Father Doolaghty for his good wishes, and the lodge for its kindness. Those present then sang '•For He's a Jolly Good Fellow," and gave cheers for the guest of the evening. Dancing was then resumed till the early hours.

Archbishop O'Shea arrived in Opunake last evening, and will be the guest of Father Doolaglity for the week-end. On Sunday, after the late mass, the archbishop'will administer the sacrament of confirmation to a large number of candidates.
