The total number iOf Cl men taken to camp for special training so far is nearly a thousand. It Is stated that probably CO per cent, will eventually be passed as fit for service with, the expeditionary force.
The' Soldiers' Financial Assistance lifts issued a statement with the viclrVof removing misapprehensions regarding the scheme of assistance. In addition, to direct payment from the Defence Department comprising pay, separation, and children's allowances, the board may grant financial assistance in respect of such recurring obligations as rent or board and lodging, interest on mortgages, or loans, instalments on furniture, sewing machines, etc., rates and taxes iilimranee premiums (life and fire). Although the provision for financial Assistance is a soldier's by right und is a' straight-out gift, each case is considered Upon its merits. So discrimination Is made between officers, non-eoaimission-ed fffcers and men. The board will not entertain an application until a reservist' has been passed by the Medical Board as A, B, or Cl. It is not necessary to appeal for exemption in order l> get financial assistance. The Board's grant* commence as fvom the date which the recruit first becomes entitled to receive continuous pay as a member of the force?
