NEW PLYMOUTH PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.
■ MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Patriotic Committee ( was held in the Soldiers' Club last night, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr. C. 11. Burgess, chairman I, and Messrs W. J. Chaney (deputy chairman), L. M. Monteath, J. Clarke, AY. A. Collis, C. Sadler, J. E. Hill, and C. E. Bellringer. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs .T. McOod, H. Coodacre, .1. Paton, C. Carter, and Archdeacon Evans. CORRESPONDENCE. The general national secretary of the Y.M.C.A. wrote acknowledging the Association's cheque for £SB lis Bd, the donation made to the Trench Comforts Fund.
The Mayoress (Mrs. C. H. Burgess) acknowledged donations for the Y.M.C.A. teas in New Zealand camps. A case of cake was sent to Trentham on October 18.
•T. .1. Dwyer, lion, secretary of the New Plymouth Parish Committee of the Catholic Federation, wrote thanking the association and enclosing a receipt from the treasurer of the .Diocesan Council of the Catholic Federation, Wellington, for £SO, the donation made to the Catholic Field Service Fund.
Mr. N. K. MeDiarmid acknowledged the Associations cheque for £4l l.'is 7d, which amount had been voted for the procuring of comforts for the New Zealand soldiers in Egypt through the medium of the Y.M.C.A. The amount was forwarded by Mr. MeDiarmid to his son Donald, who is connected with the Y.M.C.A. in Egypt. The writer thanked the Association for the confidence place<l in his son and the appreciation shown of the work that was being done by the Y.M.C.A. The national secretary of the Y.M.C.A. also acknowledged with thanks the sum of £143 10s, tlie donation made by the Patriotic. Association to the general funds of his association.
The committee dealt wit.li several applications for employment and financial relief made by returned'soldiers. The financial statement showed that the credit bank balance on October 8 was £S2O 12s lOd, Wounded Soldiers Fund £1 Is. During the month sums amounting to £273 ISs lOd had been received from various bodies and private donors, making a credit total of .CKI9S 12s (Id. Monies paid out amounted to £5,>3 12s 3d, leaving £542 in hand. Accounts amounting to 7s Dd were passed for payment.
