ELTHAM.
From Our Own Correspondent. Eltham. Nov. 13. The Rev. Burgin, who has been for two years or more engaged in looking after soldiers at the front, had a full house here last night when he delivered an address on war matters. The Mayor (Mr. T. B. Crump) presided. The lecture was delivered in three sections, one dealing with women and munition workers, i,he Church Army, and in the trenches. The speaker paid a fine tribute to the work of the ministers of the various denominations, and expressed his regret at any attempt to raise sectarian dissension in New Zealand. At the front the sick man and the dying received every attention, no matter what religion he professed. The speaker's remarks about the Somme and other battlefields were verv vivid, and showed the courage of the Britisher and the colonial to be of the liighest, whilst the courageous manner in which the French and Belgian forces face their taik was also a magnificent lesson in sclf-saerifice. The chairman of the school committee, (Mr. A. IT. Andrews) informs me that the swimming baths will to. available in the next few days. This is good news for the young-and-oldsters, who are now well aware by the great heat that summer lias arrived.
