A FINE SELECTION AT THE EMPIRE.
j For sheer power and grip nothing has , ever been produced by the Triangle Company to equal the "Dark Road," the star feature screened at the Empire , last night. Some of the situations are ' terrific in their intensity, and their emo- [ tional effects will be felt by the most ! hardened picture-goer. Dorothy Dalton lis the star, and in the role of the • strange seductive siren whose desires | alone are her laws, does superb work. : She is particularly impressive in the last j scene, when, in the midst of the ' ous barbaric settings with which she has I surrounded her goddess Cleopatra, she ; is relentlessly hunted by her half-crazed | husband. The retribution for her wanI ton conduct is terrible and complete. The | photography is a masterpiece'. On the some programme a fine Blue Bird feature is showing entitled "The Gay Lord Waring," with Warren Kerrigan in the name part. It is an English story and all the incidents take place in and around London. The plot turns on the great sacri- ' flee a titled gentleman makes for the woman he loves. The end has a charm quite its own. The full programme will be repeated to-night and for the last time to-morrow. OLGA PETROVA THURSDAY. On Thursday the popular emotional star, Mine. Olga Petrova, will be featured in one of her greatest triumphs, "The Soul of a Magdalen."
A RIG ATTRACTION AT EVERYBODY'S TO-NIGHT. A big "Mutual" Film Corporation feature "The Diamond Runners" heads the new programme at Everybody's theatre to-night. "The Diamond Runners' is a departure from the usual' detective drama and breaks new ground in plot and method. The popular actress. Miss Helen Holmes, well known for her daring exploits in numerous railroad dramas, gives a. forceful and remarkably clever performance as a member of an international diamond smuggling gang, who buy uncut diamonds by illicit means in the mines of South Africa, and smuggle them into the United States, making enormous profits. A strong and exciting story has been written around the efforts of the gang to get the diamonds away, and the work of the Secret Service to beat them. The programme also includes a big American drama "And the Law Says," featuring a popular stage favorite, Richard Bennett.
