DISTRICT NEWS.

RAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent). Mr. Browne, the asriculture lecturer,' visited Messrs A. Chapman's and A. Phillips' farms on Monday, 29th. when 28 farmers were present. A very instructive and enjoyable time was spent by thosp anxious to learn. It is with sorrow we see Private John Morrow and Private G. Salisbury have made the supreme sacrifice.. Private J. Morrow was an old Rahotn bov, and well liked by all who knew him. He was one of the first to enlist, being in camp some weeks when he was required home on the death of his eldest brother. In course of time a younger brother became capable and he again enlisted and went away with the 16ths. Deep sympathy is felt in the district for his mother and relations. , Private G. Salisbury and a brother, wounded, are brothers of Mesdames Fischer and Baker. The latter have the sympathy of their friends. Lance-Sergeant Magnus Hughson is but a boy, and third son of Mr. T. P. ITughson. He is also among the wounded, we hope not seriously, and trust that he and Private Salisbury will not have to suffer much.

It is sad to hear that Sergeant d'Arcy Pcnwarden, a patient in Victoria Hospital for some time, is still very far from well. Could he be moved to' Now Plymouth his old friends would be able to visit and cheer him up. A long letter has been received from Private Copestake acknowledging a fountain' pen sent by the farowelling committee, posted to Trentha.m. It followed him all the way over and came as a great surprise. 'He enjoyed the trip so much that he would enlist again.
