CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

TAILORING DISPUTE.

The Conciliation Council, under the presidency of Mr. T. Ilarle Giles, sat on Monday and yesterday in the Taranaki Tailoring Trade dispute. The assessors for the employers were: Messrs Wm. Besley, (New Plymouth), DaVid Butchart (Stratford), and J. W. Stubbs (Eltham) ; and for the union, Messrs. Robert Wihon (Dunedin), W. M. Waterworth (Wellington), knd Chas. Sullivan (New Plymouth). The union's claims were carefully discussed, and it was finally agreed that a recommendation signed by the assessors of both sides should go forward to the Arbitration Court to the following effect: That the employers and the union hereby agree to accept the decision of the Arbitration Court in regard to whatever terms and conditions are fixed upon in the tailoring trade in the chief centres of the Dominion. It was further agreed by both sides that the dispute should be formally dealt with by the Court at its forthcoming sitting in New Plymouth on the 13th inst. The registrar of the Court having been advised of the settlement arrived at, intimated in answer to a wire from the Commissioner that the Court wojild not require to hear any evidence in relation to the dispute. At the close of the (proceedings Mr. J. W. Stubbs for the employers, moved a hearty vote of thanks to the Commissioner for the able and courteous way he had presided over the Council's deliberations. This was seconded by Mr. R. C. Wilson, for the union, and carried unanimously.
