Tlie New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency draw attention to their Kohuratahi sale, on Thursday, November 8, at 1 o'clock. Full particulars on page 8 of this issue. T. Lamason (Stratford) announces a first-class furniture sale on behalf of Mrs. E. T. Hudson, for Thursday next The Curtis's. Aeroplane Co (U.S.A.) has received a £40,000,000 order for aeroplanes. The plant will employ 15,000 men on the job. This company has devised a flying boat, which is said to be well adapted to all purposes of modern war in the air, and particularly to coast patrol. The new hydroplane differs from prevailing types by having it= engine installed in the boat instead of over the operator's head. Another future is an appliance which gives the operator power to cut loose entirely from the .planes, throwing the power of his engines to a regulation marine propeller for aquatic propulsion. By this device it is expected that all the perils of coast patrol duty will be eliminated to a large extent. If sudden gules should strike one of these planes while nt sea, it could be brought to the surface of the sea where it could bo converted into a motor-boat.
