Handsome bequests to wanganui,

The late Miss Elizabeth Alexander left some handsome bequests to public institions of Wangamii, the chief items being £12,000 for the museum and library. ,£4OOO for the Wangamii, .Orphanage, £2500 for the hospital, £2OOO to'the Education Board for the purpose of establishing Technical College scholarships, £ISOO to the Presbyterian Home Mission, and £IOOO for founding scholarships at the Girls' College. Other bequests include £OOO to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church,' £SOO- to the Public Library, £.500 to the Old Men's Home, and £SOO to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, making a total of £24,900. Wellington, Nov. 3. The Appeal Court announced to-day that it had come to the decision that J. E. Lnndon, of Auckland, had beer, guilty of professional misconduct, and asked counsel if -he had anything to say with regard to punishment. ' Mr. Blair spoke briefly in mitigation. Dr. Truby King has received advice i.from Lord Plunket that the financial arrangements proposed by Dr .King have been approved, and that the committee propose obtaining a hospital and accommodation for mothers on the outskirts of London, to be worked on Karitane lines, also that the Marlborough School of Mothercraft for the education of women engaged in welfare work will be at the doctor's disposal, and, that a Mother's Welcome Club for demonstration purposes in the .poor district of London will bo established before the doctor's arrival. Dr. King expects to leavo the Dominion at the end of the year or early in the new year, .

A SHOOTING AFFRAY. Hamilton, 'Nov. 3. At Huntly yesterday a widower named Kernohan was shot by a married man named Harry. Domestic troubles are alleged. •Kernohan had been boarding with, Harry. The Shot struck his shoulder, and Kernohan was brought to the Waikato hospital and operated on. The wound is not considered serious. Harry was arrested and brought before the court and remanded.
