DISTRICT NEWS.
TARIKI.
The news that Lance-Corporal W. Coutts had died of wounds, which reached here on Friday, cast a gloom over this locality, where he was highly esteemed and moßt popular. Corporal Coutts was born at Tariki and educated at the local school and at Stratford High School. On leaving, he joined the "Railway Department, where he was rising rapidly, but owing to his father's ill health he resigned to take over the management of the farm. He enlisted and left New Zealand with the 10th Reinforcements, and, in addition to long spells of arduous trench work, was in the Somme, Messines, and also the recent heavy offensive fighting, where in company with so many others of our brave lads he made the supreme sacrifice. The deepest sympathy is felt for his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Coutts and family.
