- PLUNKET AFTERNOON. A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The function in aid of the Plunket Nurses' Fund, held at Kawaroa Park last Friday afternoon,' was. endowed with glorious weather, so naturally proved a delightful afternoon's outing for mothers and all little folk. In fact, it was more like a children's Christmas fair, as balloons, dolls and trumpets, firmly grasped in some tiny hands, were met with everywhere, and above- the murmur of the crowd could often be heard the shriek and merry laughter of some wee tot. when its vividly-colored balloon went sailing away in the wind. No one could say, after viewing such a scene, that the. population of New Plymouth was diminishing.
The kiosk was gaily decorated with bui'ting. and delicious afternoon tea was provided by the members of the society in the Bungalow, being served by members of the Kawaroa !Park Committee. ' There were nine entries for decorated go-carts, which resulted in Mrs. G. Millar's (a mass of pink roses) receiving first honors, Mrs. Frank Wilson's being second (deftly arranged with yellow crinkley paper find daisies), and Mrs. H, Russell's third (daintily designed in pink roses and pink azaleas. The judges were Mesdames Holbrooke and Heardon.
The mystery tree was under the man. agement of Mesdames W. Weston and G. Fraser. The cake stall was supervised hy Mrs. R. Brown, and the baby stall was ably managed by Mesdames W. Ambury and Blanchard. Competitions were won as follows: Cakes. Mesdames Cock. Goodwin and Hooper; embroidered pram cover. Mrs. E. Matthews; baby's address, Mrs. R. A. S. Browne.
The success of the day was undoubtedly due to the energies and capable management of the Kawaroa Park ladies' committee, who had charge of the afternoon tea, and helped in many ways. The day's takings amounted to the satisfactory sum of £23 15s. the whole, of which ■will be devoted to the funds of thelPlunket Society. WEDDING.
