RACIAL SUICIDE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Trenching on Patriot's letter in your issue of to-day, I quite agree with him. But what else can be expected when throughout the British Etfipire free right is allowed to atop propagation? It is no use burking this momentous question. False modesty liaa got to' be trodden on. Let us be up and doing, and minimise the race suicide business, not encourage it. About two years ago I happened to he standing on the footpath opposite a Ohinamau's shop (not iu 'New Plymouth). Three young fellows came along, and one of them said: "Wo will go in here and buy so-and-so." I went in after they came out and remonstrated with the Chinaman, and his reply was: "Me 9ellce allee same as le chemist, welly good ploflt." Can we blame him? The late Mr. 'Seddon brought in a Bill to deal with this curse, but lie was howled down by so-called goody-goodies. In my humble opinion no retailing in this line should! .be countenanced except on a medical man's certificate. Hitherto our legislators have granted bonuses to their employees, irrespective of the number of their children, which is a wrong principle.—l am, etc., D. J. HUGH ICS. New Plymouth, 1/11/17.
