THE EFFICIENCY BOARD.

A meeting of the Efficiency Board local trustees was held yesterday. Present: Messrs T. Furlong, junr. (chairman), E. Whittle, and 'F. J. Hill. Correspondency was iread from 'the commissioner in Wellington stating that •oldiers' applications that had been forwarded to him by the local trustees had been sent on to the Financial Assistance Board, Wellington, to be dealt with. The chairman of a dairy company approached the board'and asked their assistance in a difficulty that had arisen in connection with his company. The manager had been taken ill- and was in the hospital undergoing a serious operation. All efforts to obtain a capable substitute in Taranaki had failed. The only man who had the qualification was a soldier on final leave, and he asked the board to make representations to the Efficiency Board in Wellington to get his leave extended so as to tide them over their difficulties. The local board decided it was a matter of urgency to comply with the requeßt. The Masterton Chamber of Commerce, wrote stating that it was forming a trustee board there, and requesting full information relative to the work to submit to a public meeting of citizens.— Complied .with. Another soldier, who had seen active service, approached the board re employment. The board decided to do all they could to find him suitable work. Another soldier on special leave asked the board to assist him in getting extension of leave.—lt was decided to wire the military authorities in Wellington asking that an extension bo granted, as the board was satisfied his reasons were valid.
