BOWLING.

The holders of the Hawera challenge buttons (Goodwin, Btirrell, Grant, Hollard) had a substantial win on Saturday, defeating Wore. Tonks, Black and Fov by 27 to 7 points. The Pihama Bowling Club had a very .successful opening last week. Visitors were present from Hawera Manaia, Auroa, and Opunake Clubs. Mr. Lamliie, president of the club, welcomed the visitors and spoke feelingly in reference to the death of two prominent bowlers of 'the Opunake Club—Messrs W. O. Dudley and R. Warner—two good sports who will be greatly missed and alSo expressed sympathy with the relatives of the deceased gentlemen. Three cheers were given for the King. Miss Lambie threw the jack, and the usual game, president Y- vice-president, was played the latter winning by 12 points. At the conclusion of the game Mr. Feaver, on behalf of the visitors, returned thanks to the Pihama Club and to the ladies for their hospitality. The Manaia Club has challenged Pihama for the banner, the game (two rinks) to be played on November 21 The Fitzrov green is to be officially opened for the season to-day, When the club's croauet ground will also be opened.
