(From Our Own Correspondent). A well attended meeting of ratepayers was present at the Town Hall on Friday ! evening, when Mr. - Waters (engineer) explained the proposed electric lighting proposals, promoted) Iby the Opunake Town Board. The scheme has been previously outlined in the News. The proposal is to supply Opunake With electricity generated from the Waiau river and to take over the present acetylene gas loan ( £800) and provide all the costs, etc, in installing a system of electric lighting, to cost .-£701)0, which is guaranteed by a rate of 15-lfiths of a penny. Mr. Waters contended that 49 horse pow.er was sufficient for Opunake's requirements and that the scheme proposed was the most suitable one. The meeting unanimously endorsed the proposal, and expressed a wish that the Board proceed with the scheme. It is certain the proposal will be carried by the ratepayers. The vacancy on the Town Board caused by the detft'h of the late Mr. \V. C. Dudley has brought out four aspirants for the seat, namely: Messrs W. L. F. Chambers, IT. Norfolk, Geo. W. Rogers, and M. Deegan. ~\lr. Rogers has had a long experience of local bodies work and previously held the position of chairman of the Town Board. It is on the cards that if elected he will be the successor of the late Mr. W. C. Dudley as chairman. Davitt, of Morrinsville, who was for many years practising here. A resident on returning from the Military Appeal Court with a sine die certificate found his place placarded with the words "<3old feet."

Mr. Marshall, our local solicitor, intends removing to Hawera and commencing practice there. The Opunake branch will be conducted by Mr. McDavitt.
