MR. WEBB RESIGNS, By Association. Wellington, UstKteM; Mr. P. C. Webb, M.P. for Grey, has sent a letter to the Speaker of the Howe of Representatives tendering, his m%nation as from one week after the close of the present session, on the ground that it was abundantly clear from the nature of the petitions aijid telegrams received from every part of hie electorate and from the gold and coal miners throughout New Zealand th*t $e general interests of the eleotorete ftM-special interests should not be unrepresented in Parliament.
MUNICIPAL CLIMAX AT MARTON.
Marion, Oct. 30. Since Mr. F. C. Wilson'* election a* Mayor, municipal affairs in, Morton have not been stagnant. There fcave been stormy meetings almost every .time the council met, and no business has been transacted. Last night's meeting was the climax in affairs, when the previous resolutions appointing certain .councillors to sub-committees were rescihdfld and a resolution unanimously carried Appointing all councillors, excepting the Mayor, as a committee of the council,'«nd delegating all powers and duties to thorn. This practically means that the council has power to ignore the Mayor in future. The Mayor refused to accept * motion of censure against himself for writing an unauthorised letter to the Wanganui Chronicle threatening to exclude their representative from the municipal buildings. A resolution wag carried that the council dissociates itself from the Mayor's letter to thev Chronicle, ALIEN SEAMEN"' WHAM^D. Christchurcu, Oct. 20. In the Magistrate's Court Henry Thomson and Gustavo Thorn, two alien seafarers, for landing in New Zealand without passports were ordered to bs. kept in custody till their 'vessel sails. INDECENT ASSAULT CASES. Christchtirch, Oct. 3f>. In the Supreme Court criminal sessions, Charles Henry Burrojj, on nine charges of indecent assault, was senfenced to nine months' imprisonment on each, the sentences to be cumulative. James Dwyer, for indecent was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, MISSING GIRL,FOUND. Dunedin, Last Night. A private telegram was received from Auckland this morning, stating that the girl Martin, who disappeared from here some time ago, has been discovered and taken charge of by friends. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of th» man Young., who disappeared at the same, time, on a charge of wife desertion.
