HAWERA FARMERS' CO-OPER-ATIVE ASSOCIATION.
1 PROPOSED WANGANiUI BRANCH. A meeting of fanners was held at Wanganui on Wednesday, at which Air. W, Morrison presided. A delegation from the Hawera Farmers' Co-operative Association attended and laid before those- assembled ideas ifor opening a branch in the Wanganui district. In his opening remarks the chairman said it had been intended to have representatives from the Wellington Distributing Company at the meeting also, but they had not attended. He was of the opinion that they should all pull together, without a spirit of antagonism. If, however, some mutual arrangements could be come to by which one company only would be here he would be pleased to see the Hawera Co-op. come. This company would make saleyards here, build a store, and perhaps make Wanganui their shipping port. There was a question about harbor rates, but he was sure if the company commenced operations here there would be no harbor rate. Air. C. L. Duigan thought there was a greater community of interest for Hawera than Wellington. The latter place seemed to want everything. He expressed the opinion that it would pay Hawera to use Wanganui'.* harbor. If the Hawera Co-op. wanted to set up business hc-re, then let them canvass the district, and. if capital was forthcoming, then start the business. If there was no capital to be had, then he thought there would be no business. Mr. Duigan's suggestion was adopted. It was stated by Mr. Lynskey that if share capital to the extent of £25,000 is taken up the branch will be opened.
