WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The council met at Whunaamomona on Tuesday. Present: Crs. W J. McCutchcon (chairman), J. AlcCluggagc, A. Coyne, T. R. Mounsey, H. AlcLcod, M. Geever, and M. O'Neill. ENGINEER'S REPORT. E. C. Robinson, engineer, submitted the following report: The recent spell of drv weather has dried up the unmetnlle'd roads, and they are now being dressed as far as possible with the labor available. Repairs have been made to a portion of Upper Alangaehu road, whilst the Whangamomona Valley road is being gradually cleared of slips, and is now nearly open to Tahunaroa. The iProspect road bridge has been put into good order. The subsidy offered by the Public Works Department is to clear the last half mile formed by the Department on the Rimuputa road. Mounsey's bridge will be completed in a few 'days. The non-ar-rival of timber at the Whangamomona township bridge has caused a cessation of work. Very necessary repairs have been made to the Vera road bridge. The engineer submitted a return ot the detailed cost of the 'Putikituna road metalling.—The report was received. The matter of closing Prospect road bridge was left to the incoming council, the townspeple in the meantime to be advised of the position. In connection with the Putikituna road bridge, the council'decided to adopt the suggestions of the resident engineer of the iPublic Works Department, re the subsidy of £2OO granted for that purpose. The engineer (Mr. E. C. Robinson) was instructed to submit a detailed statement of the Putikituna road loan metal expenditure to the Public Works Department, and also that application be made to the department for the £l3O (10 per cent, additional) on the same loans. W. Pope complained of overloading on Kohuratahi roads.—Matter left in the hands of the engineer. After consideration of a petition from Putikituna road settlers re hypothecating "thirds," the council resolved to refer the petition back for the signature of Mr. O. Coxhead, and then it will be referred to the Land Board, with a recommendation that it be granted. The engineer was instructed to report on reserve now leased by Mr. Norris. The necessary metalling of Makahu road south is to be proceeded with, provided Mr. W. Manning temporarily advances cost of same until the Government subsidy is forthcoming, £2O. This being the last meeting of the council, the chairman briefly returned I thanks to the councillors for their great assistance during his term of office. The councillors reciprocated the expressions of the chairman, and the following motion was carried: Thafa hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the chairman for his valuable services in the ratepayers' interests, and his great assistance generally. After passing accounts totalling £236 12s Bd, the council rose.
