SUCCESS AT RAMADI.
BRILLIANT ENTERPRISE. . London, Oct. 2. General Maude's victory is one of the most complete in the war. The Turks and Germans have been massing round Aleppo many divisions, mostly Turkish, with a "view to attacking General Maude or General Allenby, or both. Falkenhayn. is believed to have laid light-railways and arranged motor transport on an important scale. General Maude's victory was a finished piece of work. It is not easy to surprise an army in its own territery, and not often done. One of the results is that the Turks must rally a distance between the two river lines on which the Turks depend for supplies. The minor success gained simultaneously north-east of Bagdad shows that General Maude is holding off one body of the enemy while he demolishes another. It it first blood to Maude in the duel with Falkenhayn, and a most brilliant opening of the winter campaign. The King has sent the following message to General Maude:—"l send my best congratulations to you and all the troops concerned in the capture of the Turkish forces at Ramadi. I fully appreciate your skill and leadership, as well as the spirit and gallantry of all ranks which enabled them to overcome the difficulties of the country and climate and the resistance of a stubborn enemy."
