WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The following are the individual amounts received by the North Country Baby Committee from the various brandies: Urenui £787 tis 9d, Tikorangi £251 Ms 3d, Uruti £214 14a M, Okoke £73 10s Id, Mokau £25 Is.

The north country folk are naturally proud of their win, and there is some talk of ceremony of crowning. You can't beat Urenui for making the most of good things when there is a necessity for patriotic purposes, if they hold the function talked about, it is hardly necessary to say that it will be done in good style, and the result will be in keeping with the effort just made. Some sneak thief got to work at the camp reserve and purloined some 'l7 pieces of timber. When they come down to robbing a soldier the case is pretty bad. The members of the freezers' committee entertain the laudable idea of running raffles monthly on the same lines as has been done in connection with the baby contest. The object is to assist the patriotic funds.

Something over £4OO was spent by those visiting the camp reserve on Monday last. More than half, needless to say, found its way into raffles. The pictures are to be run three times a week after next Saturday. There are a lot of tired people in the town this week. The reaction of the big effort in connection with the baby contest ha s set in, hut things will soon come down to normal.
