ELTHAM.
; (From Our Own Correspondent). Eltham, Oct. 24. A short sitting of the S.M. Court wds held this afternoon, Messrs 0.. Flyger and J. W. Stubbs, J.'sP., presiding. Judgment by default was" given in the debt case. Hurrell Bros. (Mr. Weir) v. W. Guinness, claim £2 12s Gd. In the police case against Fred Muir, charged with working a horse which had a sow shoulder, there was no appearance of defendant. After hearing the evidence of Constable Liston, Kaponga, a fine of Ids and costs 7s was inflicted. The Elthamites proceeding to the CI camp on Tuesday were: E. Burrows, H. Clement, T. A. Kelleher, H. Svmons. The Mayor, Mr. T. B. Crump, officially farewelled the members. In conversation with Mr. Harvey, hon. sec. of the C.E.M.S. Club, he informs me that matters are progressing very well in connection with the suggested neiv premises. The idea is to embrace it with a soldiers' club, or at least to erect premises that will be available for returned soldiers as well as other members, tlie soldiers paying a minimum fee. The building will be of a permanent character, and with a little energetic canvassing, the organisers expect sufficient support to warrant going on with the scheme.
Mr. J. L. Nairn's eldest son, Donald, who left with the 21st Reinforcements, was amongst the wounded men in the latest battle. A cable indicates that lie is now in an hospital, but fortunately is not amongst those killed in action, as has been erroneously stated.
