ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
A WATTOTARA FATALITY. A fatality occurred on the railway line near Waitotara between 5.30 and 10 o'clock on Saturday morning, says the Wanganui Chronicle, a surfaceman named Neil Peter Neilson, aged 53, losing his life. The deceased was one of a railway gang who went out to work as usual on Saturday morning. At 8.30 lie was seen working on the line, tiut at 10 o'clock his dead body was found lying at the bottom of a slight embankment near the railway line, one leg and one arm being broken and the chest badly crushed. Two trains 'had passed between 8.30 and 10, and it is presumed that one of thorn struck the unfortunate man. The drivers and firemen of the engines state that they did not notice the man, and had no knowledge of the accidsnt. A bend in the line hid the deceased from his fel-low-workmen, who were therefore unaware of the accident until the body was found.
At the inquest, after hearing the evidence of the surfacemen, the Coroner adjourned the enquiry until Thursday, in order that the drivers and firemen of the ttrains, one of which it is presumed caused the accident, may be present.
