THE SECOND DIVISION.

A ruATHEitsxox piumc vr. By Telegraph.—'Press Association. Carterton, Oct. 2;!, At a meeting representative of the married farmers of South lCeathfrstou, addressed by the Rev. Mr. Catherwood, Messrs. A. C. Holms and Hornsby, M.P., the following motion was carried: —That this meeting of married men, representative of the Fenthcrston district, enters an emphatic protest against the inadequate provision made for soldiers' dependents and calls upon the Ministry and Parliament either to favorably reconsider the proposals or to be logical and i place nil sections of the community on the same economic basis as the country's defenders, as being in some measure an equality of sacrifice; further, tnis meeting also unanimously affirms that the Ministerial statement as to the Second Division 'League not playing the game is unwarranted. TAEANAKI RESOLUTIONS. j. At a provincial conference of Taraiiaki delegates to the iSecond Division League, held at Stratford, yesterday, and presided over by the Mayor of Stratford, the following resolutions were passed: That this conference repudiates any suggestion of the League not having played the game, and reaffirms the League's position that a separation allowance of less than (is per day for a wife and Is fid per day for a child is unreasonable and impracticable, and suggests that a re-arrangement of the public expenditure would go far to meet the legitimate claims of wives and dependents of soldiers.

That while fully and sincerely recognising the extent to which the Government has met these claims by recent legislation, is of opinion that the country is both willing and able to provide the necessary finance, and again urges upon the Government that the Reparation allowances asked for by the League are not only practically possible but an economic necessity of pressing and paramount importance. That the executives of the various branches impress upon their members and the public generally the justice of the Federation's platform and its importance to the country generally, and tn the business community, particularly in view of the disorganisation of trade that must follow inadequate allowances.
