WAVERLEY-WATTOTARA ANNUAL MEETING. A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING, The crowd that rolled .up to the annual meeting of the Waverley-Waitotara Racing Club yesterday was hardly up to the attendance of recent years, but the lack of suitable train arrangements had much to do with this. The weather remained fine, though a strong northerly wind swept the ground. Betting was fairly brisk, the sum of £3623 being put through on the Cup alone, but backers of the favorites had a bad time. The Cup was a complete surprise, the favorite (Toatere) being well beaten by the rank outsider, White Blaze, in 2min. 9 4-ssee, which is easily a record for the race. Mr. Gordon, stipendiary steward, was in attendance, but had an easy day. The Wanganm garrison band enlivened proceedings with splendid music, which drew an appreciative audience. Owing to the late arrival of several horses the races were half an hour late in starting, and time was lost as the day progressed". The secretary, Mr. W. Maefarlane, and his assistants did everything possible to provide for the pleasure of the club's patrons. Results:
