STRATFORD.

Stratford and district readers of the Daily News will be pleased to learn, by advertisement on the first page, that the superb motion picture, "Intolerance," is to be shown at His Majesty's Theatre, on Monday evening. A large" attendance is anticipated, so call early, or, bette: still, be on the safe side and reserve your seats. This morning's Daily News indicates that a meeting will be "held in the Town Hall, on Tuesday evening, in connection with the visit of the Rev. Howard Elliott and the formation of a 'Protestant Protection Association. Seen this morning, the Mayor and town clerk announce that the decision not to let the hall, stands, so evidently if the reverend visitor comes to Stratford he will require some other hall than the one named in the Daily News advertisement to deliver his address. Monday being a holiday, the Stratford Bowling Club has resolved to hold a progressive pairs match, for members only. Trophies are being donated by Messrs Sharp and Lyons, for winning lead and skip. The game will start early in the morning. _■ Mr. P. Harkness presided at a meeting of residents and suppliers of Midhirst, held in the hall last evening. The chairman explained that the late manager had been a resident of Midhirst for many years, during which he had ever been ready to assist in any cause to advance the place, whilst the factory had found him a conscientious employee, as was shown by the number of years (18) Mr. Kleeman had been with the company. It was resolved to show some recognition and appreciation of his services, and a further meeting will be held next week, when lists at present out will serve as a guide.
There was only a short list submitted to Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., this afternoon Judgment was given for plaintiffs in the following civil cases: P. C. Price (Mr Wright) v. S. Parker, claim £l7 17s Od, for repairs to motor cvele. with costs £1 10s 6d; W. W. Hodge (Mr. Thornson) v. Paul Collyer. farmer, Kaikohe, claim £67 16s 6d, balance due on a p.n., with costs £4 lis 6d. In the judgment summons case, A. Carroll v. C. Corbishley. claim £37 8s sd, defendant was ordered to pay amount within one week, in default two months' imprisonment. L. H. Cattley v. C. Abbott, £9 15s, to be ipaid bv 22nd instant, in default 10 days' imprisonment. Fines of 5s and costs 7s were inflicted in the following cases of breaches of the borough bylaws: A. and J. Sattler, and H. Glen. A meeting of the executive of the A. and P. Association was held last evening. The secretary reported that arrangements had been made for a "rest tent," under the control of the Salvation Army. The Marlborough Woolgrowers' Committee forwarded a letter requesting the appointment of a representative on th* Controllers' Board. It was decided that the letter be referred to the Taranaki A. and P. Association, with a view to holding an early conference. The officials controlling the various classes were requested to appoint stewards for same as early as possible. A circular letter has been issued, requesting members to nominate their entries as freely as possible, and as this will be the only spring show in Taranaki, a big list should bs secured.
There was a good attendance at the Ngaere Hall, last night, when Private Geo. Coleman, who is on final leave was tendered a social. During the evening. Mr. D. Morrison presented the departing soldier with a wristlet watch, and called for cheers for the soldier and his wife. Songs, dances, etc., were contributed by Messrs James. Sanne, Hart, Orr and Thomas. Music for the dance was contributed by Miss James (piano), S. Parker (cornet), and W. Walsh (violin). Extras were contributed by Miss James, and Messrs James, # Hammond and A. Scott.
Mr. C. E. James has just opened up sotoe very appropriate and beautiful Christmas cards for sending to soldiers at the front, and friends in the Home Land. A very large and varied assortment is available but already a steady demand has set in, so those on the lookout for seasonable gifts of this description should lose no time in inspecting Mr James' stock.
