WELLINGTON TRAMWAYS. •" By Telegraph.-—tftress Association, v Wellington, Oct: 18. The annual report of the Wellington Electric Tramways and Lighting Department shows that the train Way "receipts last year were £207,'946, compared with £187;884 in the previous year. Working expenses were £145,385, against £118,817. Capital charges were £43,601, against £41,927. The net surplus was £18,760, against £27,120. The expenditure oh new works last year was £41,571. The total capital expenditure to March 31 was: On the .tramways £752,455, power supply £34,721, lighting £12,182. Receipts from the power supply last year totalled £15,440, compared with £12,783 in the previous year, and t'he net surplus was £1729, a'ga,inst £I3OB. Passengers carried by the trams during the,year show a daily average of 88,235, thus considerably more than the total population of the city is moved efsry day. The difficulty of obtaining materials hampers the construction of rolling stock to meet the demands of traffic. ' THE LtJNDON CASE. Wellington, Oct. 18. Before the Appeal Court in the Lundon case, Mr. von Haast, in reply, said that the first duty of a solicitor is to give an account of the moneys held in trust when asked for. Neglect to furnish an account amounts to professional misconduct. He submitted that Lundon had failed in this respect. Judgment was reserved. MOTORIST COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. At the Magistrate's Court Percy Withers was cliai'ged with negligently driving' a motor car at an excessive speed, causing the death of Gordon Ohallis, thereby committing manslaughter,' He was committed for' trial. • •FORTUNE TELLERS SENT TO PRISON. Auckland, Yesterday. Three women—Mrs. Stewatt May, Leon Lees and Alene Arnold—were sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment each for fortune telling. '• In each case the police matron and assistant matron visited defendants, one - of whom said the war would end in 1925, when it would be won by the Chinese, while, another prophesised a, duration of 'five years, the Americans being the victors.
