THE HORIZON BRIGHTER.
A CHAPLAIN'S VIEWS OF THE WAR PROSPECTS. Wanganiii, Oct. 15. Chaplain-Captain Blamires, who has just, returned to Wanganui after two years' active service, said that although the end of the war had been 'held back by Russia's internal troubles the horizon was now much brighter than it was twelve months ago, and all along the hundred miles held by the British they were winning. In conjunction with their Allies there was no thought that we should be pushed back, but a strong conviction that wherever we' decided to push w'e could win. The cost of vapid pushing was expensive, and our leaders were conserving their forces and .strength. "We have beaten the Germans on The West front," continued the speaker," and the only question is: When will they acknowledge their defeat?" Proceeding, Captain- ißlamires contrasted the conditions in Britain and. and m <U' many.. Last, 'winter was one ot the most severe experienced in Britain and France for many years, but the conditions in Germany were infinitely worse. Our men were better fed than the Germans, and if the latter held out they were going to have a bad winter. Without attempting anything in the nature of a definite prediction, he believed that the end of the northern summer, when America would be ready to add her full weight to the stren"tl' nf <-|i„ Allies, would see the end of the fighting.
