DISTRICT NEWS.

KAIMATA. (From Our Own Correspondent). On Thursday evening last a grand patriotic concert was held at Kaimata which far surpassed all previous efforts of its kind in the district, its success being very largely due to the performers who so willingly came long distances fo help along the cause. The programme was well arranged and each and every performer was heartily applauded and encored. Mrs. Wilkes, Misses L. Laing, Sangster, Messrs N. D. Day, Renaud, Webber, Geddes and Sergt.-Major Williamson contributed songs, and Miss Allen and Captain Allen were quite successful in appropriate recitations. Messrs Webber and A. B. Mac Donald received well merited applause for their duet. Mr. A. O. Sturroek was eminently successful in a pianoforte solo, and Mr. Eggleton was enthusiastically recalled after his sailor's lntrnpipe. The local school children came in for high praise for their chorus singing. Messrs Renaud and Sturroek acted as accompanists. At the conclusion of the concert Mr. Taylor thanked the performers and those who had provided cars for their conveyance on behalf of the people of Kaimata, and called for three cheers for all those who had given their help so willingly. After supper tho floor was cleared and dancing was indulged in until the early hours. Miaa Jones and Mr. Egar supplied excellent dance music, and extras were played by Misses Death and Petersen. Mr. Bocock very ably filled the position of M.C., while Messrs 3. Death and B. Old were stalwart doorkeepers and right well they gathered in the coins which will benefit the Patriotic Society to a considerable amount.

During the evening Mr. G. Mackie, in a ; p!endid British speech, presented Trooper Blackbourne with a set of military brushes on behalf «' the Kaimata residents. A like presentation was to iiave been made to Private Bathhurst but as he was not present the brushes will be handed him at the first opportunity.
