VIOLA DA\ T A IS A FIXE METRO PLAY AT THE EMPIRE, i' An exceptionally fine programme was introduced at the Empire last night, when Viola Dana starred in a powerful "Metro" picture, "The Threads of Fate," and Violet Mersereau renewed acquaintances in a delightful Blue-bird comedydrama, "Susan's Gentleman," Two more pleasing or winning personalities than these two little ladies possess would be hard to discover and as each is cast in a play admirably suited to their temperament resulting effect is most strikingly and exquisitely delightful. The photography and settings of both pictures are quite up to the high standard of the Metro and Bine-bird studios and the story of each picture is quite free and connected leading up to the final scenes in a manner that pleases and interests. Viola Dana has appeared in many fine pictures since her fine portrayal in "The Stoning," but her present appearance (in "Threads of Fate") e.tcells even her wonderful portrayal in that picture. Violet Mersereau is refreshingly good in all her pictures and "Susan's Gentleman" in no way detracts from her reputation. To-night will be the final screening of this programme.
