Mr. C. K. BcllringcY, who has been oil a visit to Wellington, returned by tha mail train last night.

Lieutenant 6. Macalister, Stratford (of the legal firm of Rutherford, Macalist* and Coleman) ig reported wounded. Another young officer from Stratford, L>utenant R, Wood, is also officially notified as wounded.

The members of the No. 1 Military Service Board (Messrs D. Q. A. Cooper, S.M., chairman, Guy Williams and D. McLaren) arrived in New Plymouth yesterday, as did also Captain Walker, militry representtive, and Major Cox, group officer.

The funeral of the late Hon. J, D. Of mond, M.L.C., took place at .the Napier Cemetery on Tuesday morning, The cortege was a lengthy one,.and included representatives from most of the local bodies in Hawke'a Bay. Following the hearse were Messrs 6. F. and J. Ormond, the Hon. Sir Francis Bell, Sir James Carroll and Mr. Q. Hunter M.P.

The following Taranaki names appear in the casualty list published yesterday morning: Second-Lieutenant Karl Justus Strack (Mrs. C. A. Straok, Hawera, mother), Captain Nevile Henry Arden (Mrs F. E. Arden, New Plymouth, mother). Wounded, admitted to hospitals Private Henry Francis Salt (Mrs. L. Salt, New Plymouth, wife). The hospital progress report states that 'Private H. W. Franklyn is still dangerously ill. and Private D. Langley (New Plymouth) is dangerously ill,

Lieut. K. IJ. Stra'ek, of Hawera, who was killed in action in France, was the youngest son of Mr. C. A. Strack, h"eadmaster of the Hawera District High School. At the time of his death he was 23 years of age. He left with the 7th Reinforcements as sergeant, and saw service in Egypt in 1015 and in France in 1018. He was afterwards sergeant instructor at Sling for six months. Before the battle- of Meesihes he was granted his commission, having gained tenth place in his examination in England among 150 Empire candidates. He was (hen in the fighting line until his death in the field on October 4. He AVfis educated at the Hawera High School and Wellington College.

Lieutenant-Colonel H. Weston was reported slightly wounded in the recent big battle at Ypres. He left New Plymouth as a captain with ahe Sixth Reinforcements, unci went throush the Oallipoli campaign unharmed. He proceeded to France in command of the Taranaki Company of the Wellington Regiment, and was slightly wounded' in the big push at the Sommc, but was able to remain with his unit. Subsequently he was selected as one of the four officers to «o to Aldershot for special trainin.tr as battalion commanders, and wag there from January till the end of last March. He returned as second in command of the 2nd Wellington Regiment, a»)d, in the absence of his Colonel, was in command of his regiment at Messines and La Basse Villc. Subsequently ho was in command of the 3rd Otago Regiment (Fourth Brigade). The wife of LieutColonel . eston is in London at present.

Three weeks ago the name of Lance* Corp. L. Francis appeared in tho list of wounded at Messines. In response to a cable, the High Commissioner, yesterday informed Mrs. Geo, Francis, Fitwoy, thai the wound was not serious, and tpat the Lance-Corporal's condition was good. It will be remembered that when permission to enlist wag refused, Lance-Corp. Francis, then only 17 years of age, vanished from his home on January 4, 1915, and the next word received was to the crlect that ho had joined the crew of tins Kia Ora as a trimmer, had worked his way Homeland had there enlisted in a. machine-gun section with the Durhams. At the Sommc his machine-gun casement was blown clean away by a shell, but he was uninjured. Later he was wounded in that same battle, and spent a considerable time in England convalescing as a result of the wound and an attack of diphtheria he contracted about tho jam* time.
