TARANAKI RAILWAYS.
CONCENTRATION ON STRATFORD—i MAIN TRUNK. [By Wire.—Our Parliamentary Reporter. ! Wellington, Oct. 12. Speaking in the House this evening, Mr. Okey (Taranaki) said he agreed with Mr. Pearce (iPatea) that it would be wise to stop the Opunake line under existing conditions. The line beyond Kohuratahi ought to be pushed through. The cuttings and embankments had been completed for some distance, and the line was of immediate importance. The Minister of Public Works said ,he was arranging for the survey of the line right from Opunake to the port along the coast. He believed that this line would provid* very suitable work for the returned' soldiers after the close of the war. The climate and the employment would be right for the men. Mr. Wilkinson: "We will wait for them."
