INCREASED PAY FOR FIGHTINF London, Oct. 10. The joint com'mittee of trade unions and members of Parliament, urged slr. Llovd George immediately to increase the pay of soldiers and sailors 100 per cent., with increases to other ranks below officers. Mr. Lloyd George pointed out that what had already been done had Cost 50 to CO millions. He sympathised with the objects ofthe deputation and would refer the matter back to Sir E. Carson's Cabinet Committee. REPLY TO AGRICULTURAL DEPUTATION. London, Oct. 10. The Press Bureau states that Lord Rhondda, Food Controller, replying to an agrimltural deputation, dealt with the complaint that the fixed prices for' meat were unremunerative to the farmer. Tie referred to the danger of world meat famine in 1918. If Sir R. H.Papp's appeal for voluntary economy failed, he would unhesitatingly compulsorily ration the country. He agreed to postpone the lowest maximum price for cattic. but refused further concession. The nation was entitled to ask for sacrifices from all classes, including the fanners.

INDUSTRIAL RECONSTRUCTION. London, Oct. 10. A manifesto, signed by many business men and educationalists, urge a national scheme for industrial reconstruction whereby workers can participate in the self-government of industry.
