MOTOR CHARGES.

To the Editor. - Sir, —May I, through the columns tjf your valuable paper, ask if the taxi-cab or motor-tar drivers have any fixed rata ot charge, or. nre they at liberty to make charges to suit themselvfs? I Reek this information for the benefit of the travelliiijr public, as well 'as my oWn.'its I may bo placed in a similar position to that of a certain person oil Friday. Having missed the train 'bound for Stratford (only by a few seconds), & motorcar was sot for her to catch the train on arrival at the nearest station, und the car driver thought tit to drive to Inglewood, 110 doubt to suit liis own pocket. On arrival at Inglewood she was charged 30s for the drive, doing the trip under minutes. Now, «ir, do you not think that was a most unreasonable charge? Was it just to the person, or was the ear driver taking advantage of the .situation to make easy money? If so, the matter should be seen into, and a rat# fixed. I am, etc., JUSTICE. [The charge for tho conveyance of on# passenger by a motor-ear plying lor hire, as fixed by the Xew 'Plymouth Borough by-laws, is one shilling por mils (mileage to be counted both ways). Tliis would make the cost fo a trip to Inglewood by the nearest route 25s at most. One shilling a mile is the usual charge for motor hire in Taranaki. -Ed.]
