(From Our Own Correspondent). The bazaar in aid of the St. Barnabas 1 church fund was opened on Tuesday rif■ternoon by Mr. W. C. Dudley (chairman of the Town Board). The stalls consisted of plain and fancy goods, jumble, produce, sweets, and refreshments were nicely decorated with evervgreens and flowering shrubs. The stall holders were:—Plain stall, Mesdames Des Forges and Rogers, assisted by Mesdames Cornish, Heath and Stent; jumble stall, Mrs. King, assisted by Mrs. KnolTlock and Misses King and Parsons; sweets stall, Mrs. Marshall, assisted by Miss Feaver; produce stall, Misses G. Wallis and E. Looney,
The bazaar was concluded on Wednesday evening, and a fair business seemed to have been transacted. The refreshment part (a fairly heavy part) was managed by Mesdames Chambers and Hammond. The bazaar was promoted bv the Ladies' Guild.
The monthly meeting of the Nursing Association was held on Thursday afternoon, the Rev. R. B. Gosnell presiding. The secretary reported that Nurse Elliot reported she was very busy. Last •week five minor operations were performed in the cottage by Drs. Buist and Cooper, whilst numerous out-door patients were attended to. There seemed to be no chance at present of obtaining a second nurse. The secretary was instructed to write to the assistant inspector (Miss McLean) re increased remuneration for the nurse, and the chairman and secretary were authorised to attend to the procuring of requisites for the nurse's cottage. At the concluion of the meeting the chairman spoke eulogistical)}' of the services rendered to the Association by the Rev. Stent who is leaving here for Eastbourne (Wellington). The Rev; Stent returned thanks. On Wednesday afternoon the Sunday School scholirsi presented Mrs. Stent with a handsoajs lady's hand bag as a memento of tlyjir association. Mrs. Stent appropriately replied. The children were entertained to afternoon tea by the Ladies' Guild. On Friday evening a public farewell was tendered to Rev. 0. M. Stent, who leaves here on Monday for Wellington. The rev. gentleman lias been vicar of St. Barnabas' Church for some four years, and during that period lias been a very active citizen assisting at many of our public functions and taking a fuil share of work on various committees of public usefulness. The Town Hail was crowded, and the gathering was representative of all denominations. Mr. Chambers, on behalf of St. Barnabas' congregation, presented ftev. Mr. and Mrs. Stent with a silver cake dish and manicure set. The Rev. Gosnell, on behalf of the Nursing Association, presented him with a handsome travelling rug. The Rev. Stent replied, thanking the donors for their kindness to himself and Mrs. •Stent. Rev. Father Doolaghty and Rev. J. Russell spoke of the happy relations that existed with the departing guest. Mr. Macßeynolds, secretary of the Nursing Association, also spoke.
