WEST COAST LEASES.

OVERCOMING THE PURCHASE DIFFICULTY. By Wire.—Our Parliamentary Reporter. Wellington, Last Night. Mr. Okey mentioned the West Coast native leases in the House to-day. He said that the holders of these leases were ready to purchase, but they could not do so until the Government completed the purchase from the natives, who were willing to sell. He asked if the Government would bring down the necessary amending legislation this session. Mr. Herries replied thai the delay had been caused by the fact that the New Plymouth Harbor Board claimed a per* centage of the proceeds of land sold by the Crown to tenants. The matter was now in the hands of the Lands Department, and he understood that a clause intended to get over this difficulty, was being prepared. The clause would be placed before the House during the present session.
