RED CROSS WORK.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. MR. RHODES TO <3O TO LONDON* By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The executive committee of the TTefl Zealand branch of the British Bed Cross Society and Order of St. John was held at Government House to-day, when th« Governor-General presided. Hon. R, Heaton Rhodes was unanimously ap« pointed to proceed to Great Britain as a Red Cross Commissioner to inquire and report for the New Zealand branch,oi the joint Bed Cross Association. It wa« resolved that he should inquire fully into the requirements and administration ol the London committee, with special re. pud to any desirable extension of theii operations, and whether it wag desirable to create depots in France and Egypt as suggested by General Richardson. It wus also resolved that Mr, Rhodes should report on the methods foi dealing with disabled soldiers, and to what extent philanthropic organisations are co-operating with the Government, especially what steps are taken to pre< vent overlapping in New Zealand.
The appointment of General Richard* eon as a member of the Red Cross Conw mittce in London was unanimously apt proved.
A letter received -by his Excellency from the joint committee in England stated: "Our anxiety is thftt our need! should he made known in such a way ag is possible to the people of New Zealand, from whom we received last year a sum amounting to nearly £48,000. Oui needs now are far greater than thej tvere then, and we hope that' the re< sponao may prove to be equally genen ous." :
