OPUNAKE.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Opunake Town Board was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs W. C. Dudley (chairman), C. A. Trotter, S. M. Cornish and E. Thorpe. Mr. Wilkinson. M.P., wrote that he was endeavoring to get a medical man for Opunake, and that the Minister was bringing in a Bill this session to give gome consideration to places situated similarly to Opunake The Board decided to go on with the electric lighting proposals as soon as the poll formalities are concluded, and a public meeting will be held within a fortnight to place information before the ratepayers. Mr. G. R. Tylee is to be asked to accept nomination as the board's representative on the Natinal Park Board. Mrs. Harris was appointed custodian of the Town Hall. The Raglan Town Board, in a circular letter, stated that Mr. Martin, of the Municipal Association, gave it as his opinion that counties must differentiate in rating between town districts and outlying districts, and that counties are under certain legal restrictions. The matter had not been tested, and it was desirable that a test cass be made in the Supreme Court, and the circular asked for assistance from this board. It was considered tlvere was a good deal in the question raised, but as Opunake gets the benefit of its own rates spent on the county road through the township, they had no complaint. The foreman reported there was only sufficient carbide in stock to last until Saturday night, and it is unprocurable from merchants. Kerosene lamps and candles look like the alternative. The foreman reported on works completed. Accounts were passed for payment. At the Farmers' Co-operative spring cattle fair on Monday, yearling steers brought up to £S 7s; evidently in two years' time some farmers anticipate beef cattle to bo too high in value for beef steak. The Anglican bazaar in aid of the church funds was opened to-day (Tuesday).
