PUKEKURA PARK BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Pukekura 'Park Board was held last night, when there were, present Messrs E. C. Hughes (chairman), C. E. Bellringer, W. A. Collis, H. Ford, and E. H. Tribe (secretary). Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs Cock, W. L. Newman and S. Percy Smith. CURATOR'S REPORT. The curator (Mr. W. W. Smith) reported: The staff has heen able to proceed • more expeditiously with the work of the park, due to improvement in the weather. AVe finished all the woVk on the main walks, excepting some minor places which we propose to do after a general cleaning up of the walks and banks. During the finer weather wa have devoted considerable time to planting young trees and transplanting thelarge specimens to the space on the side of the lower lake, adjoining the sports ground. We will continue the work of thinning and trimming many of the young trees, and mowing and cleaning the banks of th ! e lake. There is also a considerable area of seedling gorse in several parts, which we will have to, grub soon. There are several defective, planks in the flooring of the bridge at the boathouse, which we will have to replace. I would also suggest that we procure enough material to construct a new waterfall shoot near the steps at the head of the water lily lake. It is now in a decayed and unsightly condition. I received sonic native plant seeds by post from an anonymous donor. Mr. Morshead, nurseryman, sent 16 climbing roßes to complete the rose pergola in the sports ground.

GENERAL Mr. C. J5. Beßllringcr stated that it was necessary that additional labor should be employed, as work in the park was getting behind, with the additional opening up that was being done. Mr. Tribe thought there was sufficient labor to cope with what the board was doing at present, as ho considered that very little permanent improvements had been done for years past. He tlwught now the board was ii; funds they could make permanent improvements by putting a good footpath round the top of the lake extension, and he moved that the curator be authorised to permanently form and grade the path around the lake, and that he bo authorised to cmploy a temporary man to do the work. This would make a very pretty walk.

Mr. W. A. Collis seconded the motion, which was carried. On the motion of Messrs C. E. Bellringer and W. A. Collis the curator was instructed to have the deciduous trees trimmed, especially on the western side of the lake. Mr. Ford was appointed park visitor for the month.
