THE PREMIER STATES THff POSITION. MEN CALLED ON Tq RESUMB, By Telegraph.—Press Association Wellington, Oct. 9. The Prime Minister has written to th# Seamen's Union, regarding the coastal steamer holdup, pointing out the serious position, which is causing a. shortage of food and other essentials at Kaikoura and elsewhere, and stating that the seamen have committed a breach of the strike provision in the Arbitration Act by ceasing 'employment while bound by an industrial agreement; also that the union ha<t failed to take advantage of the facilities for an impartial investigation of the dispute, either under tho Arbitration Act by 'an application, for an interpretation, or by the special board suggested by the Prime Minister. The matter will now be referred forthwith by the inspector of awards to tho Arbitration Court, and the seamen are called upon by the ("iovernment to return to their employment under the agreement now existing until the Arbitration Court gives its decision.
