OPUNAKE.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The spring show of the Opunake Horticulture Society was held on Wedncsdny. The weather was very bad, and the attendance "in the afternoon was small. In the evening the Town Hall was well filled. The display of cut blooms was very good considering the difficulties which the growers meet with in this wind-swept area, and that competitors are mostly "cottagers." The farmers do not bother much about blooms. In cut flowers Mrs. Moore was the principal prize-taker. Other winner' 3 were Mesdames Mouri, Hodgson and Miss Pelham. In the decorative classes Mrs. Rogers secured the most points and D. Malcolm swept the board in children's classes. The cooking section was very good in competition, Mesdames Ross, J. Sinclair and Miss West 'being the most prominent prize-takers. Pickles and preserves: Misses Pelham and Feaver secured the prizes and in the decorative section Mr. Cook won first prize for wood carviiig classes. Miss Feaver drawing and painting, Miss West (fancy work by exhibition) first, and Mrs. C. Feaver for exhibit of fancy work and Mrs. Neilson for drawn-thread work.

The concert in the evening was provided by four wee lassies, who danced the Highland Fling, sword dance and .Highland reels. The dancers were Bonnie Ross, Lilly, Gertie and Nelly Langton. The auction of gifts provided by the ladies from the cooking'section realised £o 16s 4d.

The dairying season is not opening with the same good results as last season, The supply to the several factories in this district is a good deal below that of the same period last year. The cause is not wholly due to the feed being late, as several farmers have turned to> grazing, whilst the spring growth of grass has been slow.
